忙里偷闲

first hotel stay in singapore over the weekend. overall experience was very enjoyable though I wished the stay could have been longer so we could explore the hotel.

anyway, sunday was the fun part. We went all over town to eat our brunch, shop for Zhigang's present, buy groceries... and sample food. hahaha. gosh, I have to elaborate on this. yesterday late afternoon, we were about to leave orchard to head back to jer's place when his dad called for him to buy some stuff for dinner. so we went to the Isetan supermarket at Lido.

Bustling with people of all sorts. Japanese, Singaporean, Caucasians... At first we were just looking for our stuff, but we noticed some stalls starting to give out samples of their food and they looked quite good. There was this seaweed thingy like a seaweed puree that was mixed with the japanese rice and tasted fantastic. It was just seaweed and rice but the seaweed tasted so gd on its own that you don't need other stuff to go with it. and we could smell the seaweed metres away... But its damn expensive, a small box for $20?

Another 'highlight' was blue fin tuna... like OMG!!! I just learnt from watching CSI (See... its not all just about forensics :P) that blue fin tuna is one rare and very expensive delicacy... different parts of the tuna fetch different prices, most expensive being the fatty meat - $48.50 per 100g. Fishing boats just need to catch one blue fin tuna and it'll fetch them enough bucks to feed the whole fishing crew well. but of 'cos... its a protected species.

So we were damn lucky that the first time we walked past they cut out tiny morsels of the blue fin tuna and put it on a tray for us to try. although its a small piece, but the tuna was fantastic..! almost wanted to get the sushi or sashimi, but it was too exp. maybe next time (: and so we just went around the supermarket, and tasted alot of yummy Jap food. of cos we went back the blue fin tuna stall a few more times, but no more samples... boo.

all this jap food makes me wanna go japan! hokkaido!
